Dr. Barbara Zeller is the Senior Medical Adviser for Brightpoint Health. Prior to this role, Dr. Zeller served as the Chief Medical Officer of Help/PSI, and subsequently Brightpoint Health, from 1994 to February 2018. Dr. Zeller oversees the quality and clinical services for all Brightpoint's health programs and facilities.
Dr. Zeller joined Brightpoint's founding organization, HELP/PSI, in 1991. Shortly thereafter, she created a unique long-term care facility that incorporated a structured treatment program for people living with HIV/AIDS who were also in need of substance abuse treatment. Her vision was to provide a healing environment; a place where people who were stigmatized by AIDS and addiction could feel safe and cared for as a first step towards recovery.
In the mid-2000s, the organization expanded its mission to develop primary care centers for people challenged by barriers to care, such as poverty and inadequate housing. Dr. Zeller provided leadership in developing a model for care that integrates medical, dental and behavioral healthcare for individuals faced with complex health conditions.
A board certified internist and HIV specialist, Dr. Zeller graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed an internship and residency at Roosevelt Hospital's Primary Care Medicine Program. Throughout her career she has been a community physician, developing programs in response to the demands of the community for adequate health care services.
In 2007, Dr. Zeller was awarded the Dr. Linda Lauberstein Annual HIV Clinical Excellence Award from the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute. In December 2015, Dr. Zeller was elected as a New York Academy of Medicine Fellow.
